Overnight windstorm spares Whatcom County from significant impacts | Whatcom News
WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — No significant property damage and other impacts from an overnight windstorm have been reported. The windstorm lasted from the evening of Monday, February 25, 2025, into Tuesday morning.
Top wind gusts of 64mph were reported by a Ferndale weather station about 2:35am, 54mph in the Barkley District in Bellingham about 3:55am and 45mph at the Bellingham International Airport about 3:15am.
A handful of reported power outages were reported in Whatcom County and the number of addresses impacted was in the hundreds.
Puget Sound Energy reported Tuesday morning that Kitsap County sustained the most amount of power outage related damage. “Field crews are reporting downed wires, damaged poles and impacts to some high voltage transmission lines,” PSE reported.
PSE reported that, as of 10am, there were approximately 106,000 without power across their regional service area.
Washington State Department of Transportation reported about 8am that the westbound lane of Mount Baker Highway (SR542) was blocked by a fallen tree west of Macaulay Road in Deming.
Areas south of Whatcom County reported greater impacts including power outages along with property damage and traffic impacts due to fallen trees.
